THE NEW 20,000-SEATER ENTERTAINMENT VENUE

The former Millennium Dome is finally set to reopen this weekend renamed “The 02”.

:: The building designed by Lord Rogers originally opened on New Year’s Eve 1999.

:: With an overall diameter of 365 metres and a circumference of a kilometre, it is 13 times the size of the Albert Hall.

:: Turned upside down, it would take Niagara Falls 15 minutes to fill it, owners estimate.

:: Organisers of the Millennium Dome had budgeted for 12 million visitors in the year 2000, but the attraction drew only 6.5 million.

:: Now renamed “The 02” it is set to reopen as an entertainment venue with a 20,000-seater arena.

:: The overhaul has included the installation of 548 toilets.

:: Rocker Bon Jovi is set to lead a line-up including Elton John, The Rolling Stones, the Scissor Sisters and Justin Timberlake.

:: Other high-profile events lined up include an exhibition of treasures from the tomb of Tutankhamun.

:: The complex also includes a smaller music venue called indigO2, an 11-screen cinema multiplex and exhibition space.

:: During the 2012 Olympic games the venue will be used for gymnastics and basketball events.
