SOMETHINGS ABOUT CORPORATES

Image-conscious corporate are now in this strange race to make a social impact.

CSR-corporate social responsibility, is a term that has become increasingly significant in business jargon.

It sees organization voluntarily taking steps to improve the quality of life not only for their customers, suppliers, employers, shareholders, communities, stakeholders but also for the environment.

The benefits are multiple. Well it is a win-win situation for both the society as well as the firm.

In the 21st century, businesses have a conscience. Ethics matter. Industry is under pressure to improve ethics through public initiatives. These businesses run hand-in-hand with social values and are not at odds with non-economic values.

Companies are focused on community-based development such as the company that I work for; EDS-an HP company has taken numerous initiatives. Employees went to an Anganwaadi school. They have contributed money to help educate children. It gives aid to local organization and impoverished communities. Such programmes would lead to more sustainable development.

It is wonderful how big MNCs take responsibility for their action on the society.

Is there some kind of corporate hypocrisy involved? These CSR policies are backed by a high-profile advertising campaign.

Their motives are questionable. Only time will tell.

But with increasing consumerism; social and environmental awareness corporate have become more responsible towards the society. It is a heartening transformation. Their economic motive is not only to earn profits but also to build a social image.

It offers a host of benefits including enhanced brand reputation and helps maximize profits and also to improve the society as a whole.
