BEING A CHRISTIAN

People have given you many names, spun tales and written books about you. God, you still remain an enigma for me. In these lines, I am exploring my own identity of being a Roman Catholic Christian.

BEING A CHRISTIAN

This is an inquiry into my soul,

After years of social conditioning,

Of being a Christian

I ponder,

Being a Christian

What does it mean?

As I muse over it,

I suddenly feel,

That I question too much…

But then,

What’s wrong?

Seeking answers,

Searching for your identity,

For what you don’t know…

Again, I ponder,

Being a Christian

What does it mean?

Is it abiding?

By the morals that Gospel teaches

Most often we err,

And then through pain,

Realize the values of virtue,

Of the truths that Bible teaches.

After returning,

From places of worship,

I see people exchange blows,

And I feel

Meaningless, my God!

Again, I ponder,

Being a Christian

What does it mean?

Did I have a choice?

For opting my religion,

I was too young,

When I was baptized,

Even to understand its meaning

I am not a rebel,

Who wants to revolutionize,

The way world thinks…

Nor do I want to

Convince, convert or enlighten anyone

For me,

Being a true Christian meant

To be a good human being,

And to help others

Clear this test of life

Through love

Nothing less, nothing more
